As you are probably aware, a massive 7.8 earthquake of catastrophic proportions hit Nepal Saturday, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring thousands more. The death toll continues to rise and over 100,000 people have been displaced. The global relief effort is currently underway and as we view images from the wreckage, we ask what can we do to help. First, we must offer up our prayers for the people of Nepal and surrounding countries who were impacted by this deadly quake and the numerous aftershocks. Secondly, we can be generous in our giving. The best places to give your money to are organizations that already have an established presence in the area.

Restore International
Founded by Bob Goff, this organization recently opened a girls orphanage in Nepal.
Catholic Relief Services
Catholic Relief Services is the international humanitarian agency of the Catholic Church in the United States. It maintains field offices in Nepal and has started its relief effort by “procuring emergency relief materials such as tarpaulins/shelter kits and water, sanitation and hygiene material.”
World Vision
World Vision teams have started to coordinate relief efforts.
Save the Children
Save the Children is an international NGO dedicated to promoting children’s rights and providing relief and support to children in developing countries. It has set up a Nepal fund to “protect vulnerable children and provide desperately needed relief to families.” Ten percent of the funds collected will go to prepare for the next disaster.
