What a Wonderful Thing It is to be a Girl: Words of Wisdom from Catherine Marshall

So my hubs and I are suckers for feel-good, old school movies – we have a whole arsenal of them if you ever need recommendations. Last night we watched “A Man Called Peter: The Life of Peter Marshall,” which chronicles the life of the famous Scottish-American preacher who served as the U.S. Senate Chaplain.

In this scene, his soon-to-be wife, the bold Catherine Wood reminds the ladies at a youth rally of the true dignity of being a woman.

Though sadly, many women throughout the world still face inequality, persecution and are treated as second class citizens, I think she shares a unique perspective and has some words of wisdom for us girls.

“The emancipation of woman really began with Christianity. When a girl, a very young girl, received the greatest honor in history. She was chosen to be the mother of the Savior of the world. And when her son grew up and began to teach his way of life He ushered woman into a new place in human relations. He accorded her a dignity she’d never known before. And crowned her with such glory that down through the ages she was revered, protected and loved. Men wanted to think of her as different from themselves. Better. Made of finer, more delicate clay…”

Her speech begins at the 2 minute mark.

Question: With the freedom and equality we now have as American women, do you think as a whole we’ve lost sight or our dignity and the value of being uniquely feminine? Why or why not?
